GOD GIVES MOSES THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Exodus 20:1-21

May 17, 2020

While Moses is up on a mountain listening to God, God gives him the Ten Commandments. These important instructions are more than just God handling down rules; they're guidelines to help his people live better lives. God doesn't want us to get hurt, so he gives us the Ten Commandments.

BIBLE POINT: God doesn't want us to get hurt.

SUMMARY VERSE: "Trust the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take" - Proverbs 3:5-6

How to Build a Bike

We've been learning that God doesn't want us to get hurt. He gave us the Ten Commandments to help us know how to live so we don't hurt ourselves or others. It's kind of like a how-to guide for us.

What's something you know how to do? Let's watch a video where Awesome Andy shows us how to build a bike.

What do you think would happen if you followed Awesome Andy's directions? What might've gone differently if you followed real directions? How do directions help keep us from getting hurt?

Awesome Andy threw out the real directions and made up his own way. If he tried to ride that bike, he’d get hurt! God gave us the Ten Commandments because God doesn’t want us to get hurt. We need to follow his directions instead of making up our own way.

GOD RESCUES THE ISRAELITES Exodus 12:1-42, 14:5-31

May 10, 2020

After sending nine other plagues to Egypt, God sends one final plague that will finally convince Pharaoh to let God’s people, the Israelites, escape from slavery. God kills all the firstborn sons in each household, passing over homes where Israelites put lambs’ blood on the door frame. The Israelites escape, but the Red Sea is blocking their way as the Egyptians chase them. God parts the Red Sea, and the Israelites walk safely through. God is with them through every step because God wants what’s best for us.

BIBLE POINT: God wants what’s best for us.

BIBLE VERSE: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” - Romans 8:28

JESUS FORGIVES A WOMAN John 8:1-11

May 20, 2020

Some men catch a woman doing something wrong. They decide they want to punish her by killing her! They ask Jesus what to do, trying to trick Jesus. Jesus tells them whoever hasn’t sinned can be the first one to hurt her. They all leave without hurting the woman, and Jesus forgives her.

BIBLE POINT: Jesus forgives.

BIBLE VERSE: But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness - 1 John 1:9

TALK ABOUT IT VIDEO

Phillip and Timothy's Story

Do you think Timothy deserved forgiveness? Explain. Philip said, “Carrying a grudge is like carrying an anvil on you. Eventually, if you carry it for too long…you’re going to fall on your back and it’s going to crush you. It’s easier to just let it go, move on.” Tell about a time holding on to a grudge made it feel like it was going to crush you.

Philip also said, “You want to forgive people because if you don’t forgive them, they can move away from you. You’ll have a very bad relationship with them, and that can end up hurting you.” Explain whether you agree that not forgiving someone can hurt you.

Timothy said it felt really good to be forgiven. But it felt good for Philip, too! We can feel good knowing that Jesus forgives us. And we can feel good when we show Jesus’ love and forgive other people.
